Being deeply connected to oriental rugs from my upbringing in Iran, I witnessed the beauty of these carpets at every turn. Carpets adorned every room, serving as the backdrop to countless cherished memories. They were more than mere decorative items; they symbolized the consistency and truth of family life during relocations and changes.
Upon immigrating to Canada, we made sure to squeeze in a fake silk carpet among our belongings. That rug stayed with me through thick and thin, from childhood to adulthood. It saw everything - spills, crafts and the birth of MEMA. One day, the room flooded, and the rug was gone. It was like losing a piece of home, a connection to Iran. Sad times, indeed.
